When mailing a postcard, you have seconds to catch the attention of the reader. The postcard format must work hard to compete with other forms of advertising.  The postcard offers the reader a quick, easy reference to what you do and your offer to them.  Here is 20 tips on how to make your postcard more effective....

1.   is your offer simply stated and easy to understand
2.   does your information accurately reflect your line of products or describe your service
3.   is is clear what you're asking the reader to do
4.   does your headline stop the reader in their tracks; does your copy support the headline
5.   is your copy short and easy to read
6.   does your copy specifically tell the reader what he or she is going to get by responding
7.   have you repeated your offer more than once (should repeat at least twice)
8.   have you clearly told readers more than once what the offer code is (you can track your response if your
ready needs to refer to a code when responding)
9.   is your copy appropriate for your potential reader (the same copy may not work for everyone)
10. include a strong, visible, call to action (ie. order now, call now)
11. include a photo (if appropriate) of what they are getting (visuals sell)
12. does the overall look closely reflect your brand (does the reader quickly recognize your logo)
13. include key components on the address side ((teaser or offer)
14. if the opportunity is there, use bright colors (the warmer the better-red, yellow, orange)
15. include a coupon (good tracking and draws the reader to buy or use)
16. use fonts that are easy to read (one or two are plenty)
17. consider the value of mailing 'large' (6 1/2 x 11 1/2 vs. 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 )
18. check our aspect ratio (a piece can't be too square or it tumbles and jams in the sorting equipment; the
goal is length divided by the height of the piece - an acceptable ratio is 1.3 to 2.5
19. consider apply special effects to involve your customer (ie. partial fold-overs, personalized stickers etc)
20. consistently test to find your most effective and efficient postcard possible (always room to improve)
